Late one insomniac night I crashed on the futon. I left the TV on for company throughout the night. Tossing and turning, hour after hour, I wake up to an old friend of mine, Joyce Meyer.
I can't remember what Joyce was talking about, but something in what she was saying made me say "amen" and fall back to sleep.
While I was in Melbourne, Mum and Jess got to go for a late night stroll down to Southbank while I stayed in our Hotel crying over some homework. This hotel had Foxtel, so I flipped it over to the Australian Christian Channel and there was little old Joyce with her cute little American accent (you can't tell by looking at her!).
So depressed at the time about my future, just wanting to give up on everything, Joyce stood there talking about the flesh, and how we need to change our thinking!
I have downloaded heaps of Joyce podcasts onto my computer, and only recently have I started listening to them. Yesterday I went on a big walk to uni and around the Kennington res. I think a few people thought I was mad as I nodded, and spoke of my agreeance in what she was saying. A bit like a John-Bevere moment, I suppose.
Oh, Joyce, what you have to say brings so much revelation. Never have I felt so much like I want to hug you and bash you in the face at the same time. I guess sometimes its things I need to hear that come from you. I love your Lisa Bevere-type feminism. Not that burn-the-bra-all-men-are-monsters type feminism but that feminism that encourages us to be the women of God we are CALLED to be!
Joyce, people try to bring down people like you. People come to you in thousands, you speak in big churches. People try to bring down the big places, but perhaps it's big because you are drawing in those crowds?
But one thing I must always remember, is that I need to worship God, not you!
